Hand-Forged
Strap Hinges
Strap Hinges, in addition
to hanging a door, also contributed to structural
integrity by helping to keep the door square. Usually
spanning 1/2 to 2/3 the width of a door, these hinges
provided a means for considerable design expression
by the more talented smiths. Our straps feature
a fully drawn taper which is carried the entire
length and a rolled eye at the pintle end. Every
bit of the surface is fully worked and beveling
is painstakingly hammered onto the edges. Each is
drilled for mounting and arched slightly for a close
fit to the door Mounting screws are supplied.

Pintle Styles
We hand-forge 4 different
pintle styles from which our strap hinges hang.
18th century style door frames normally provided
a hardwood post into which a (F) "Drive" or (G)
"Footed Drive" pintle could be mounted. These pintles
can be used with modern framing as well. We also
make the (E) "Plate Mounted" and (H) "Wrapped" pintles
which the installer may deem more workable for certain
applications.

H & HL Hinges
Widely used on interior
doors, cupboards and corner cabinets these pin style

worked with a hammered, beveled edge and forge welded
joint.
