Hand-Forged Strap Hinges Strap Hinges, in addition to hanging a door, also contributed to structural integrity by helping to keep the door square. Usually spanning 1/2 to 2/3 the width of a door, these hinges provided a means for considerable design expression by the more talented smiths. Our straps feature a fully drawn taper which is carried the entire length and a rolled eye at the pintle end. Every bit of the surface is fully worked and beveling is painstakingly hammered onto the edges.
